The rapid increase in electronic waste (e-waste) is emerging as a major environmental
and public health issue, especially in urban areas like Dhaka City. This study examines
the current situation of e-waste in Dhaka, focusing on its volume, management
practices, and the related socio-environmental impacts. Our research shows that Dhaka
produces around 4820 ton of e-waste each year, driven by factors such as urban growth,
technological progress, and rising demand for electronic devices. However, the city
lacks a comprehensive and sustainable system for managing e-waste, leading to
informal recycling processes that pose serious risks to human health and the
environment. This paper reviews the existing methods of generation of e-waste, e-waste
collection method, collection, recycling and existing policies. It offers
recommendations for creating a sustainable e-waste management system in Dhaka,
focusing on the importance of regulations, technology, and community participation.
