Green HRM Practices and Sustainable Career Intentions: Evidence from Sonargaon University Graduates in Bangladesh
Abstract
Green Human Resource Management (Green HRM) integrates environmental sustainability
into HR practices to promote a culture of sustainability within organizations. This paper explores
how Green HRM influences employees' sustainable career intentions, focusing on practices such
as green recruitment, green training, eco-friendly performance management, and employee
involvement in sustainability initiatives. Green recruitment attracts candidates who align with
sustainability values, while green training equips employees with skills to adopt eco-friendly
practices. Performance management systems that include sustainability criteria motivate
employees to contribute to environmental goals. The study examines how these practices shape
employees' career aspirations towards broader environmental and social responsibility, fostering
long-term commitment to sustainability. By embedding sustainability into HR practices,
organizations signal the importance of aligning career development with sustainable goals,
enhancing job satisfaction, loyalty, and retention among environmentally conscious employees.
The research also highlights how Green HRM shapes organizational culture, influencing
employees' sense of purpose and their intentions to pursue careers focused on ecological balance
and sustainable development. The findings suggest that organizations committed to sustainability
through Green HRM can align employees’ career goals with environmental objectives, fostering a
greener workforce and contributing to global sustainability efforts.
