The central purpose of this paper is to highlight the scientific nature of a basic research in any branches of knowledge. In order to make research really scientific, the researcher needs to religiously follow certain procedures starting from sample selection and data collection down to data analysis and report writing, followed by dissemination of findings for public consumption. The procedures envisaged in this paper are commonly followed by scientists across various fields of study. The paper also emphasizes that in scientific research, common sense and intuition have no place vis-a-vis divine knowledge and experiment. In order to guide the analyses of the data, scientist must bear in mind the unit and focus of his study.en_US
