This project showcases the development of a 2D Action Platformer game utilizing the open-source Godot engine and freely available assets. The game incorporates advanced features, including dynamic combat and lighting, and visual shaders across three distinct levels. It shows how the storyline, art, animation, programming, etc., can be combined to offer a complete package and explores the vital role game engines play in the game development pipeline. Through the application of the Action Platformer subgenre, the project demonstrates the fundamentals of game design, namely environment design, player interaction, weapon mechanics, lighting, sound, and platforming systems. Incorporating evolved game development techniques such as visual scripting, a fully functional prototype was developed, showcasing the application of game design principles in creating an engaging, playable game. Challenges in integrating assets and programming-related optimization revealed important insights for independent game developers. Ultimately, the project emphasizes the potential for independent games to be developed successfully using existing assets.
