Climate Justice as Human Rights: Bangladesh and Global Vulnerabilities
Abstract
This paper examines the nexus between global environmental degradation and the
systematic erosion of human rights within the context of Bangladesh. It specifically
evaluates how extreme meteorological shifts and rising sea levels exacerbate existing
socioeconomic disparities, effectively transforming ecological instability into a direct
threat to the rights to life, health, and self-determination. By analyzing these climate
induced displacements through a human rights lens, the research highlights the critical
gap between international legal obligations and the lived realities of populations in
high-risk coastal zones. Furthermore, this study underscores that the region’s inherent
susceptibility to anthropogenic environmental harm necessitates a transition toward
equitable resource management to prevent the further degradation of fundamental
rights.
