Study and Characterization of Jute Fiber Banana Fiber and Glass Fiber Hybrid Composites
Abstract
This study investigates the feasibility of using Jute Fiber, Banana fiber & Glass fiber with Resin to manufacture experimental composite laminates. The main objective is to increase the uses of our locally produced fiber such as Jute and Banana fiber. Another objective is decreasing the economic cost by proper using of easily available material as composite fiber. The laminates has been made through air-forming & weight pressure. Internal bond properties of Jute Fiber, Banana fiber & Glass fiber with Resin-hardener composites have been studied. The use of resin as coupling agent improve the compatibility between the fiber and both plastic matrices and mechanical properties of the resultant composites. So it’s clear that the desired result is achieved at the first time by accumulating this fibers and matrices in this study. In future this study can be more developed by changing the orientation of fibers or changing the ratio and number of lamina of fibers. The fibers also can be treated before using in composite to get the best properties. Based on the findings in this project, it appears that recycled materials can be used to manufacture value-added panels without having any significant adverse influence on board properties and also can be used instead of metallic body.
After preparing our desired composite materials we tested Tensile strength, Flexural strength and hardness. From our horizontally oriented layers of composites we got best result. The average normal stress and modulus of elasticity from tensile test we found respectively for horizontal layer, vertical layer, cross layer and fibers powder mixed oriented are σ= 34.40 MPa, E= 1720 MPa; σ = 13.34 MPa, E= 404.24 MPa; σ = 21.54 MPa, E= 1873 MPa; σ = 20.82 Mpa, E= 378 MPa.
And the average flexural strength and rockwell hardness number for sample 1, 2, 3, 4 are respectively 91.17 MPa and 94.67 HRB, 72.86 MPa and 78.33 HRB, 50.11 MPa and 95.33 HRB, 25.11 MPa and 83 HRB
