Export Procedures and Documentation Process of the Readymade Garments Industry in Bangladesh
Abstract
The Readymade Garments (RMG) industry is the most important sector of Bangladesh’s
economy, contributing a major portion of the country’s total export earnings. This report focuses
on the export procedures and documentation process of the garments industry in Bangladesh.
The report begins with an overview of the RMG sector, highlighting its growth, contribution to
the economy, and major export markets. It then presents a detailed discussion of the export
procedures, starting from receiving buyer orders to the final shipment of goods.
In addition, the report explains the various export documents such as commercial invoice,
packing list, bill of lading, EXP form, and certificate of origin, which are essential for smooth
export operations. The role of banks in handling export transactions, including Letter of Credit
(L/C) and payment processes, is also discussed.
Furthermore, the report identifies some common challenges faced in the export process and
provides recommendations to overcome those issues.
Overall, this report provides a comprehensive understanding of how export activities are
conducted in the Readymade Garments industry of Bangladesh, combining both theoretical
knowledge and practical experience gained during the internship.
