Now a days, development of industrial application is increases and electrical energy is always
in great demand. To meet the demand, we have to improve the quality of power i.e. to improve
the power factor of electrical load. Generally, nonlinear load is reason of poor power factor and
that effects on conductor losses, voltage regulation, cost and rating of machine. Nonlinear loads
are the main source of harmonics which increases Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in
distribution system and results in poor power factor. Conventionally, in full-bridge diode
rectifier, large value capacitors are used to get purer DC output. But the use of large value
Capacitor introduces current harmonics in supply side. In this type of nonlinear loads, boost
converter with average current control strategy is useful. In this paper, simulation results of
boost converter with average current control strategy, to reduce harmonics in non-linear load,
are presented. The full bridge rectifier with large value capacitor is considered as non-linear
load. Results shows that use of boost converter with average current control strategy improves
supply side power factor considerably. Also, supply side harmonics are reduced.
