Unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings represent a large portion of the buildings stock around the world
and in Bangladesh. During the construction of those buildings very little or no seismic design
requirements are considered. Moreover, no dynamic test on unreinforced masonry building made by
Bangladeshi indigenous material is done yet. Therefore, the objective of this study is to understand the
Ageing impact and Crack study of the unreinforced masonry (URM) building of Bangladesh.
In this study we visit the two sites in Old Dhaka and Narayanganj. In our visiting time we collect the
different data for our thesis study. In the basis of collecting data we trying to analyzing different cracks
and ageing impact of the unreinforced masonry structures. We also trying to find out causes of the cracks.
After analyzing we found some specific causes of cracks.
Basis of the finding results we trying to suggest the remedy or retrofits of those cracks whose are created
by different causes. We also suggest prevention and repair of the ageing impact on unreinforced brick
masonry structures.
I sincerely hope that this document is an unpretentious but interesting contribution for the growing
knowledge in the masonry field
