Labour Rights for Women in Readymade Garment Industries of Bangladesh: A Study

Abstract

Bangladesh's ready-made clothing market has grown quickly because local labor is readily available. This study investigates women's labor rights in Bangladesh's ready to-wear industry, looking at the legal framework, implementation issues, and possible ways to support their empowerment and well-being. In particular, the study explores the legislative safeguards that are now in place for female garment workers, looks into the frequency of unfair labor practices and discrimination, and evaluates the efficacy of the enforcement mechanisms in place. The study also looks into the differences between actual practices and legal provisions, as well as the reasons behind these differences. Additionally, by tackling gender discrimination in the workplace and advancing equity and women's empowerment in Bangladesh's RMG sector, this research helps meet the Sustainable Development Goals pertaining to women's participation in the workforce.
